No. 43 Inagi General Education Council

Updated: June 15, 2015

(Published in the June 15, 2015 issue of Koho Inagi)

On May 11, 2015, the second Inagi City General Education Meeting was held this year, and important issues including the education outline were decided. The task of revitalizing education is one of the biggest challenges in my second term as mayor, but I believe that I have successfully started.
This reform of education is based on revisions to the Law Concerning the Organization and Management of Local Educational Administration, which came into force on April 1, 2014. The purpose of the revision of the law is to clarify the responsibilities of local educational administration, quickly build a management system, and strengthen cooperation with the mayor, while ensuring the political neutrality, continuity, and stability of education. It is
Until now, education has been the exclusive jurisdiction of the Board of Education, and with the exception of the formulation and execution of project budgets, the mayor's involvement in educational content has been limited. However, there are opinions and issues such as it is difficult to understand who is responsible for the board of education or the superintendent of education, problems such as bullying are not always dealt with promptly, and the will of local residents is not sufficiently reflected. System reforms were implemented, including the establishment of chiefs and the strengthening of cooperation with chiefs who represent the will of the people of the region.
In fact, the first meeting was held on April 14, 2015. In the draft of the secretariat, the education outline was to be deliberated on the spot, but the mayor's term of office is until April 26, 2015, and the mayor immediately before the expiration of his term will decide the future education policy. There was a sense of incompatibility. Therefore, I decided to leave it to the new mayor after the election based on my suggestion, and held the second time in May 2015.
As a result, I was re-elected as mayor, and at this General Education Conference, we decided on an education outline. While paying attention to the consistency with the second Inagi City education promotion basic plan that has already been formulated, it emphasizes the educational tradition that has been cultivated in Inagi City so far, and the name is "Inagi City, which nurtures people and culture through contact." Education outline". At the same time, we have included the item of selecting textbooks suitable for nurturing human beings who will play an active role in the 21st century in the education outline, and have established the "Policy for Selecting Textbooks for Inagi Municipal Elementary and Junior High Schools."
In order to contribute to the healthy growth of children, who will support the future of Inagi City and Japan, and to secure opportunities for lifelong learning, we aim to achieve this outline, which was formulated with the goal of nurturing independent citizens. We will promote measures step by step.
