No.129 Rescue team from Inagi City Fire Department participates in the 50th National Fire and Rescue Technology Competition

Update date: September 12, 2022

The first "National Fire Rescue Technology Competition" was held in Tokyo in 1972. After that, they fought all over the country, and on August 26th this year, the 50th tournament was held again in Tokyo.

On the day of the event, more than 1,000 rescue workers who had won regional competitions from the Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto, Tokai, East Kinki, Kinki, Chugoku, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Okinawa chapters gathered at the Tachikawa Tachihi special venue. .

Rescue workers are a type of job that requires special physical strength and skills among firefighters. The sight of more than 1,000 elite volunteers in orange rescue uniforms gathering in one place and competing on the results of their daily training was truly spectacular.

In this competition, there are 2 types of "basic training" and 5 types of "collaborative training" for each of the land and water divisions. "Technical training" to show is carried out. Except for the presentation of technical training, the standard required time is set, and each team competes for the certainty and time of rescue.

At the Inagi City Fire Department, we have been working on an event called "Crouch Rescue" for some time, and we won a prize (actually won) at the Tokyo competition held recently, and acquired the right to participate in the national competition for the first time.

In this "crest rescue", one member puts on an air respirator and searches the 8-meter-long flue, ties the person in need of rescue outside with a rope, and then rescues him outdoors with another member. The standard time is set to 1 minute and 2 seconds for training of a group of three to transport to a safe point.

It seems that Inagi's team has hit around 35 seconds at the permanent training facility at the Kamhirao fire department, and expectations were high that they would be in a position to aim for the championship. On the day of the event, perhaps because I was a little nervous about participating in the national competition for the first time, I didn't set my best time during training, but I was able to win the prize with no points deducted.

In addition, in the technical training for the land section, 7 members of the Inagi Special Rescue Team demonstrated high-altitude rescue techniques together with 22 members of 4 teams of the Tokyo Fire Department. The performance was just like the Tokyo Fire Department team, and it was truly a powerful content of "competing for help."

At the venue, I was able to meet Mr. Murakami, the former fire chief and Mr. Shimizu, the current fire chief, who used to live in Inagi City. We promised to cooperate with the city fire department headquarters.

I would like to express my gratitude to Tokyo for holding such a grand event. We were impressed and relieved to see the many athletes from the firefighting headquarters of each municipality across the country demonstrating the results of their daily training.

Congratulations to all the firefighters from the Inagi City Fire Department on their first appearance at the national competition and winning a prize!

Also, thank you for showing us your excellent technical training!

The event will be recorded and streamed on YouTube. If you are interested, please search for "National Fire Rescue Technology Competition".
