QuestionI became ill while overseas and received treatment at a local medical facility. Can I receive a refund through the National Health Insurance?

Response

There may be cases where you can be covered by insurance upon application. After a review of the content, if you are eligible for insurance coverage, the amount excluding your out-of-pocket expenses will be paid later (approximately 3 months after the application).
The payment amount will be determined by comparing the standard amount for similar injuries and illnesses received at Japanese medical institutions with the amount paid for treatment at overseas medical institutions.
However, please note that payments will not be made if more than 2 years have passed since the day after the medical expenses were paid.
