QuestionPlease tell me about the childbirth and childcare lump-sum payment under the National Health Insurance.

Response

This is a cash benefit provided to insured individuals to reduce the financial burden of childbirth expenses.
A payment of 500,000 yen is provided for each child born. Payments are also made in the case of stillbirth or miscarriage after 12 weeks of pregnancy (85 days).
Note: For births until March 31, 2023, the amount is 420,000 yen.

The childbirth and childcare lump-sum payment is, in principle, paid directly from the National Health Insurance to medical institutions, which reduces the out-of-pocket expenses at the time of service. (Direct payment system)
