As of December 1, 2016, the washing symbols for clothing and other items have been changed to the symbols specified in the new JIS L 0001.

The new laundry labels use the same symbols as the international standard symbols. By specifying the types of bleach and applicable temperatures in more detail than before, the number of symbols will increase from 22 to 41. With more detailed information provided, it is expected that laundry troubles such as shrinking and color fading will decrease.
Furthermore, with the unification of laundry labels both domestically and internationally, it is believed that handling of textile products purchased overseas will become smoother.
