The My Number Card can be equipped with two types of electronic certificates: signature electronic certificate and user authentication electronic certificate.
The validity period of each electronic certificate is until the 5th birthday after issuance.
Note: The notation "valid until YYYY/MM/DD" (expiration date) on the My Number Card indicates the validity period of the My Number Card itself, not the validity period of the electronic certificates.

 

Electronic Certificate for Signatures

User Certificate Electronic Certificate

Overview This is used when creating and sending electronic documents via the internet. It can prove that the electronic document is authentic and was sent by the user.

This is used when logging into internet sites or kiosk terminals at convenience stores, etc. It can prove that "the person who logged in is the user themselves."

Main Uses Income Tax Return via the Internet (e-Tax)
  • Issuance of Certificate of Residence, etc. at Convenience Stores (Convenience Store Issuance)
  • Login to My Portal
  • Health Insurance Card Usage
Password 6 to 16 characters including alphanumeric characters Four-digit number
Age Restriction Persons under 15 years old and adult wards cannot be issued in principle. There are no age restrictions
Certificate Information

Basic 4 information (name, address, gender, date of birth), serial number, expiration date, etc. are recorded.

Note: The address field of the My Number Card for those moving abroad will be recorded as "Moving Abroad YYYY/MM/DD (Scheduled Move Date)".

How to Issue and Renew Electronic Certificates

When changing, resetting, or unlocking the PIN for the electronic certificate

When you want to change the PIN of your electronic certificate, or if you have forgotten the PIN and need to reset it, or if the card has been locked, you need to go through the procedures at City Hall or a Branch Office.
For those moving abroad, the My Number Card requires procedures at an overseas diplomatic mission or your registered domicile.
