QuestionPlease tell me about the eligibility for receiving the basic survivor's Pension.
Response
The Basic Survivor's Pension can be received by the wife (husband) or child of a deceased person who was a National Pension member or had paid contributions for at least 25 years, and who was supporting the family.
However, the child must be either under 18 years old or under 20 years old and in a disability condition classified as Grade 1 or 2 according to the disability classification table.
Deceased Person
- Those enrolled in the National Pension
- Individuals aged 60 to under 65 who were enrolled in the National Pension and have a residence in Japan
- Those who are recipients of the Old-Age Basic Pension. However, this applies only to those who have a total period of 25 years or more when combining the periods of paid insurance premiums, exempted insurance premium periods, and the periods subject to aggregation.

Note: In cases 1 and 2, it is necessary to meet the following insurance premium payment requirements.
Insurance Premium Payment Requirements
- On the day before the date of death, there should be no more than one-third of the insured period up to the month before the date of death that is in arrears for premiums.
- If the date of death is before March 31, 2028, there must be no periods of insurance premium arrears in the year leading up to the day before the date of death, up to the month before the date of death.
Required Items for Procedures
- Notification of Basic Pension Number or Pension Handbook for the Deceased
- Deposit Passbook of the Person Making the Request
- Certificate of Residence of the applicant (after the date of death, including all household members, with registered domicile and relationship indicated)
- Copy of the applicant's family register (after the date of death, showing the relationship between the deceased and the applicant)
- Certificate of Residence Removal for Deceased Individuals
- Copy of Death Certificate, etc.
- Income certificate or non-taxable certificate of the applicant
- Child's student ID or enrollment certificate (if the child is a high school student)
- Pension certificate, gratuity certificate
- Identity verification documents of the applicant (My Number Card, driver's license, etc.)
