When you retire from your company, you need to go through the procedure to become a National Pension Type 1 insured person (those who pay their own premiums), even if you have a dependent spouse.

Required Items for Notification

  1. Identification documents (My Number Card, driver's license, etc.) and the basic pension number notification or pension book (if there is a dependent spouse, their identification documents and basic pension number notification or pension book are also required)
  2. Documents that indicate the retirement date (such as qualification loss certificate, separation notice, retirement certificate, etc.)

Notes

  1. If a representative is making the notification, the representative's identification documents (My Number Card, driver's license, etc.) and a power of attorney are required.
  2. The National Pension insurance premium payment guide will be mailed later by the Japan Pension Service.
