I suddenly became ill while overseas and went to a local medical institution. Can I receive a refund through National Health Insurance?

Update date: August 30, 2013

Your application may be covered by insurance. If you are eligible for insurance after the content review, the medical expenses will be paid at a later date (approximately 3 months after the application), excluding the copayment.
The amount to be paid will be determined by comparing the standard amount with the amount paid to overseas medical institutions as treatment costs, with the standard amount of medical care benefits received for similar injuries or illnesses at medical institutions covered by insurance in Japan.
However, please note that the payment will not be made if two years have passed since the day following the day on which the medical expenses were paid.
