Please tell me about the National Health Insurance's childbirth and childcare lump sum allowance.

Last updated: April 1, 2023

This is a cash benefit provided to the insured person in order to reduce the financial burden of the cost of childbirth.
When giving birth, 500,000 yen will be paid for each child. If the pregnancy is 12 weeks (85 days) or later, it is also paid for stillbirths and miscarriages.
Note: Childbirth until March 31, 2023 will be 420,000 yen.

As a general rule, the Childbirth and Childcare Lump-Sum Grant is paid directly to medical institutions, etc., by the National Health Insurance, which reduces the burden at the counter. (Direct payment system)
Please check the "National Health Insurance" page for the necessary items for the procedure.
