I went to the hospital without my health insurance card, can I get a refund?
Updated: August 30, 2013
If you are unable to present your health insurance card when you see a doctor at a medical institution, you will have to pay the full amount yourself and pay the bill at a later date by presenting your health insurance card. However, depending on the medical institution, it may not be possible to settle the bill at a later date.
In such a case, please apply for medical expenses at the Health Insurance and Pension Section, and after examination of the contents, the amount will be paid later (about 3 months after the application) as medical expenses excluding the copayment. As a result of the examination, it may not be paid. Also, please note that the payment will not be made if two years have passed since the day following the day on which the medical expenses were paid.
