Does the high-cost medical expenses system apply to childbirth expenses?

Update date: April 1, 2015

The high-cost medical care benefit system does not apply to normal births that are not covered by insurance.
The high-cost medical care benefit system applies when expensive insurance medical treatment is required, such as a caesarean section.
In that case, we recommend that you prepare a "Certificate of Application of Maximum Amount (or Certificate of Application of Maximum Amount/Standard Contribution Reduction)" in advance.
If you wish to have one, please bring your health insurance card and seal and apply at the Health Insurance and Pension Section or a branch office (if you have not paid your insurance tax, you may not be able to complete the procedure). If you apply at the Health Insurance and Pension Division, we can hand it over on the same day, but if you apply at a branch office, it will be mailed at a later date.
