Is the High-Cost Medical Care Benefits System applied to childbirth expenses?

Updated: April 1, 2015

The high-cost medical care benefit system does not apply to normal births that are not covered by insurance.
The high-cost medical care benefit system applies when expensive insurance medical treatment is required, such as a caesarean section.
In that case, we recommend that you prepare a "Certificate of Application of Maximum Amount (or Certificate of Application of Maximum Amount/Standard Contribution Reduction)" in advance.
If you wish to have one, please bring your health insurance card and stamp and apply at the Health Insurance and Pension Section or a branch office. If you apply at the Health Insurance and Pension Division, we can hand it over on the same day, but if you apply at a branch office, it will be mailed at a later date.
