No.57 TBS "National Assembly Talk Frontline" Appearance!
In late May 2016, I received a request to appear from TBS Television, and commentator Keiko Kawato and editor-in-chief Kazuo Kurihara visited City Hall.
When I first confirmed the program's content, I learned that it was a talk show on the 24-hour news channel "TBS News Bird," which invites a guest from the National Diet each time and covers a wide range of topics, from the current political situation and policies to the personal hobbies of the lawmakers.
When I asked why they requested me as the mayor for such a program, I was told that during the time of national elections, they refrain from featuring members of the National Diet and instead welcome the heads of local public entities as guests.
That clears up my first question, but I still don't understand why it came to me. When I asked my second question, I was informed that this time they wanted to focus on the Long-Term Care Insurance system and were looking for municipalities that are taking innovative approaches, and I was recommended because when it comes to care, Inagi is the place to go.
If that is the reason, it is an honor, and I thought it would also contribute to the city's promotion, so I decided to accept the invitation.
By the way, while I have experience with local CATV, this is my first time with a key station. I thought there would be considerable preparation and thorough rehearsals, but instead, they just decided on the outline of the questions via email, and I sent materials to create the flip chart, and suddenly the recording day arrived.
On the day of the event, I visited the TBS Broadcasting Center in Akasaka, and after passing through a strict security gate, I was guided to a floor that was entirely occupied by the news department and multiple studios, and I was overwhelmed by its size.
Just before the event, I received a brief explanation that this program is recorded but in a "pseudo-live" format, and unless there are significant time overruns or corrections to the content of the statements, there would be no retakes or edits. I thought to myself that this was going to be quite a challenge, but it was already too late.
While receiving kind words from Mr. Kawato, such as "If you make a mistake, you can just retake it, so don't worry," when I entered the open studio and it was time for the actual performance, the director unceremoniously started with, "It is now 1:17 PM, please keep it to 45 minutes. 3, 2, 1, cue!"
There was no atmosphere to suggest a pause or retake, and I felt like I rushed through the full 28 minutes under Mr. Kawato's guidance.
Since it was a dialogue format mixed with ad-lib rather than just reading from a script, I reflect on whether I was able to convey even half of what I wanted to say, but I hope for your understanding as this was my first experience. The program will be broadcast a total of four times from June 24 to 26, 2016, on CS and CATV, and after the broadcast, it will also be available on the program's internet site.
While touching on the city's specialty products, Inagi Nashinosuke, and tourism promotion bases, I was able to talk about the caregiving support volunteer system, the construction of a community-based integrated care system, and the Inagi City Medical Plan, which was a meaningful experience for me.
Inagi City is currently a very young town, but the proportion of new town development is significant, and it is estimated that aging will progress rapidly at a certain point in time. In preparation for the 2025 problem when the baby boomer generation turns 75, we will work on building a system that can provide caregiving, medical care, life consultation, and caregiving prevention in a one-stop manner, with the cooperation of relevant parties, starting now.
