No. 120 50th Anniversary of City Administration Implementation Commemorative Project
Inagi City was elevated from Inagi Town in Minami-Tama District to a city in 1971, and this November 1 marks its 50th anniversary.
As part of the anniversary projects for the city system implementation, in 2011, which was the 40th anniversary, "Inagi Nashinosuke" was born, original license plates and commemorative Certificates of Residence were issued, commemorative stamps were sold, and a lecture by Jiro Asada and a screening of the movie "THE LEGACY OF THE SUN" were held.
In 2016, for the 45th anniversary, the Eurasian Kestrel was designated as the "City Bird," and the city's original logo type was decided through a public recruitment.
Additionally, in 2019, which marked the 130th anniversary since the establishment of Inagi Village in 1889, we held an exhibition of old photographs, issued commemorative postcards, and conducted historical lectures and quiz competitions.
This year is a memorable year for the 50th anniversary, and we have engaged in various commemorative projects. Here are some of the main ones.
Decision on Logo Mark
Last year, from April to June, a public recruitment was held, and the work of Mr. Uranobe, a resident of Nakano Ward, was selected.
Establishment of the Inagi City Song
Last year, we solicited lyrics from April to June and music from September to October. The lyrics by Mr. Asakura, who resides in Sapporo, and the music by Mr. Takahashi, who lives in the city, were selected, and it was established as the city song in November of this year (the lyrics and audio are available on the Inagi City Website, so please listen to it).
Creation of Commemorative Publication
It was published after reviewing the content with citizen participation and distributed at the commemorative ceremony (it is posted on the Inagi City Website, so please take a look).
Creation of Commemorative Video
We have created a video reflecting on the 50 years of progress (it is posted on the Inagi City Website, so please take a look). The commemorative ceremony was held on November 6, 2021, with the first part welcoming guests and the second part presenting certificates of appreciation. We showcased the commemorative video and a chorus of the city song by students from San-naka. In the second part, a commemorative performance was conducted by the Inagi Philharmonic Orchestra and iMUSICA.
Commemorative Film Screening
On November 7, 2021, a screening of the film "Ninomiya Kinjiro" was held by an executive committee composed of citizens and local organizations.
Festival
The I Inagi City Citizens Festival was planned to include stage events and collaborative projects with Komae City (joint Bon Odori), but it has been canceled due to the impact of COVID-19.
Amateur Radio Station
The Inagi Amateur Radio Club will establish a 50th anniversary station from October of this year to January of next year, communicating with domestic and international stations to disseminate information and promote Inagi City.
Photo Contest
In June to July of this year, we held a public recruitment and selected one Grand Prize, two Excellence Awards, and ten Honorable Mentions. We will hold exhibitions sequentially at public facilities in the city (please check the Inagi City Website for details).
Creation of Can Badges
Can badges with the logo were distributed at the event venue and other locations.
Commemorative Stamp Sales
We have issued original framed stamps featuring the city's scenery, scenes from the establishment of the city 50 years ago, characters, and selected works from a photo contest (available for purchase at local post offices, Pair Terrace, and the post office's online shop).
This series of commemorative projects aims to introduce the history, culture, and charm of Inagi City, built over the past 50 years, and to deepen civic pride among everyone. We are grateful for the achievements of our predecessors and would be happy if we could pass on the greatness of Inagi to future generations.
