No.94 A comprehensive agreement has been concluded regarding collaboration with Nihon University Athletic Sports Department
On September 3, 2019, an "Comprehensive Agreement on Cooperation between Inagi City and Nihon University Athletic Sports Department" was concluded at the newly established Sports Nihon University Performance Center in Sakahama.
Nihon University has owned land in Sakahama for some time and has established athletic facilities such as an athletics stadium, rugby field, and soccer field. This location is close to Wakabadai Station and is within walking distance, but it is situated in a hilly area flanked by Tokyo Metropolitan Wakaba Comprehensive High School to the north and Inagi City Public Schools Inagi Second Junior High School to the east, making it difficult for many to know that Nihon University's facilities are located within the city due to the vastness of the facilities not being visible from the road.
The city has not had a direct cooperative relationship with Nihon University until now, but recently, a facility redevelopment plan has been initiated, and cooperation has increased, focusing on facility development relations, including plans for the utilization of adjacent land.
This athletic facility has undergone a large-scale renewal and was relaunched in 2017 as "Sports Nihon University Athletic Park Inagi," with facility development still ongoing. In July of this year, a new flagship facility for athlete development, the "Performance Center," also opened.
Athletic Park Inagi covers an area of 126,000 square meters, equivalent to 2.7 Tokyo Domes, and the environment of the student dormitory, including training facilities and a cafeteria, is said to be at the highest level in the country, including the top leagues.
The city is currently advancing the Land Readjustment Project in the Kamihirao and Odaryo districts, and in line with this progress, a general student dormitory with a capacity of 300, "Bandelian Inagi," was opened in April 2017.
Thus, through the cooperation between the city and Nihon University, wonderful facilities have been provided in a great environment.
By the way, while facility development is progressing, with an eye on the Rugby World Cup being held in Japan, the Nihon University Rugby Club has acted as an intermediary and has been exploring collaboration with the city in areas beyond facility development.
On May 4, 2019, with the cooperation of the rugby club, a tag rugby event for children was held at Inagi City Comprehensive Ground, and after the event, a spring tournament between Nihon University and Hosei University was also held.
Furthermore, students living in the dormitory have joined the fire brigade, and many athletes from the rugby club, men's and women's soccer clubs, track and field club, and women's judo club have participated in city events such as environmental beautification citizen movements and city-wide crime prevention patrols, receiving gratitude and welcoming voices from the citizens.
In this context, the city is fostering a spirit of building a closer collaboration with Nihon University in a wider range of fields than ever before, aiming for mutual development, which has culminated in today's agreement.
As for future collaboration, the city will continue to support Nihon University's facility development and accept internships at the City Hall and Fire Department. Additionally, we expect Nihon University to conduct sports classes for citizens, hold matches at Inagi City Comprehensive Ground and Inagi Nagamine Tokyo Verdy Field, and participate in various community activities.
With the conclusion of this comprehensive agreement, we hope for the mutual development of Inagi City and Nihon University.
