Calling attention to cases where money is demanded through postcards describing fictitious lawsuits using the name of the Ministry of Justice illegally
Updated: May 1, 2018
Since May 2017, business operators who send postcards to consumers' homes under the names such as "Ministry of Justice Branch Office Civil Litigation Center" and "Ministry of Justice Branch Office Civil Litigation Notification Center" and finally demand money. (Hereinafter referred to as "business operators who claim to be under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice branch offices"), consultations are being received at local consumer affairs centers, etc.
From the Consumer Affairs Agency, based on the provisions of Article 38, Paragraph 1 of the Consumer Safety Act (Law No. 50 of 2009), there is a risk of unfair harm to the interests of consumers in transactions with businesses that claim to be the jurisdictional branch of the Ministry of Justice. We have received information that there is a certain act (defrauding or intimidating consumers to confuse them), so we would like to inform consumers in order to prevent the occurrence or expansion of consumer damage.
Unauthorized use of names, etc. "Ministry of Justice Branch Office Civil Litigation Center", "Ministry of Justice Branch Office Civil Litigation Notification Center", "Ministry of Justice Branch Office Civil Litigation Notice Center", etc., and in many cases, the name "Ministry of Justice jurisdiction” is included.
Note: Businesses claiming to be Ministry of Justice branch offices have nothing to do with the Ministry of Justice, which is a national administrative agency. In addition, the Ministry of Justice does not have a department named "jurisdictional branch office".
