Alert about intrusion of sponge toys in capsules into the body of young children
Updated: February 15, 2019
Sponge toys in capsules are small capsules made of gelatin that contain compressed sponge. When the capsule is placed in water or lukewarm water, the gelatin dissolves and a sponge in the shape of a dinosaur, fruit, animal, etc. comes out.
The toy entered the child's body without the parent's knowledge, causing an unexplained disorder that lasted for four months until the cause was identified at a medical institution, after which the child was removed under general anesthesia.
Since there is a risk that the same kind or similar consumer accidents will occur in the future, the Consumer Affairs Agency has provided information to prevent the occurrence or spread of consumer damage based on the provisions of Article 38, Paragraph 1 of the Consumer Safety Act.
