How much does it cost to use long-term care insurance services?
Updated: May 1, 2019
When using long-term care insurance services, the insured person (service user) pays part of the cost, and the insurer (municipal government) bears the rest. At this time, the "burden ratio" indicates how much the insured person should bear for the actual expenses incurred.

The burden ratio for those aged 65 and over is divided into three levels, 10%, 20%, and 30%, depending on the income situation of the previous year.

- The total amount of income is the amount after deducting the amount equivalent to necessary expenses (the calculation method differs depending on the type of income) from the amount of income, and is the amount before deductions such as deductions for dependents and medical expenses. . In addition, if there is a special deduction for long-term (short-term) capital gains such as the transfer of land and buildings, etc., the amount obtained by deducting the special deduction from the total income amount will be used.
- Pension income does not include tax-exempt pensions (disability pensions and survivors' pensions).
- The other total income amount is the total income amount minus miscellaneous income related to pension income.
- Those who are subject to restrictions on benefits due to non-payment of long-term care insurance premiums will also be assessed based on their income. When the period of benefit limitation expires, the burden ratio will be according to income.
