About My Number Card (Individual Number Card)

The My Number Card is a plastic card with an IC chip that contains your personal number.
It can be used as an identity verification document.
The design of the card is as follows.

  • It can be used as an official identification card for identity verification.
  • Personal number confirmation and identity verification are realized with this one card.
  • You can apply online for various administrative procedures.
  • You can use private online transactions such as online banking.
  • You can obtain a resident's card, seal certificate, etc. at a convenience store, etc. (see below for details) .

About electronic certificates that can be installed on My Number Cards

When using convenient services such as convenience store issuance, it is necessary to mount an electronic certificate on the My Number Card.
There are two types of electronic certificates, which can be installed arbitrarily when applying for a My Number Card.
In addition, even after obtaining a My Number card, you can apply for it at the window.

  • electronic certificate for signature

Used when creating and transmitting electronic documents over the Internet. It is possible to prove that "the electronic document is a genuine one created by the user and sent by the user".

  • Electronic certificate for user verification

It is used when logging in to Internet sites, kiosk terminals at convenience stores, etc. You can prove that "the person who logged in is the user himself/herself".

About electronic certificate for my number card (personal number card)

About the personal identification number of my number card

My number card has 4 types of PIN in total.

・Acquisition of certificates such as resident cards at convenience stores (convenience store issuance service)
・When logging in to Mynaportal, etc.

for Basic Resident RegisterRequired

It is used when changing the address or name on the My Number Card or for special transfer procedures (procedures for moving in using the My Number Card).

For assisting entry of ticket information

It is used to confirm the name, address, etc. recorded on the card and to use it as text data.


Validity period of my number card

My number card has a validity period.
Please note that the two electronic certificates ( electronic certificate for user verification and electronic certificate for signature ) that can be optionally installed on the My Number Card are different from the validity period of the card itself.

Those who are about to acquire a My Number Card (Persons with a status of residence other than Permanent Resident, Highly Skilled Professional No. 2, and Special Permanent Resident)

  • If you apply before the expiration date of your period of stay, the card will not be issued. You will need to apply again, so be sure to apply after you have extended your period of stay. New application forms are available at the Citizens Section Citizens Counter, Hirao branch office, and Wakabadai branch office.

Those who have a My Number card (persons with a status of residence other than Permanent Resident, Highly Skilled Professional No. 2, and Special Permanent Resident)

  • If there is a change in the period of stay due to an extension of the period of stay, etc., the validity period of the My Number Card will also need to be renewed. Please note that the My Number Card cannot be used after the expiration date. A fee will be charged for reissuance.
  • If you have a My Number Card and have applied for an extension of your period of stay during the period of validity of your My Number Card, please bring your updated Residence Card and My Number Card that is still valid to complete the procedure. If the person is under the age of 15, a legal representative must come to the agency and bring the person's residence card, my number card, and identification documents of the legal representative to complete the procedure.
  • If you apply for permission to extend your period of stay before the expiration date of your period of stay, but the permission is not granted by the expiration date, you can apply for a special extension of the period of stay, which allows you to extend the validity period of your My Number Card by two months. . Please bring your residence card that states that you are applying for permission to renew your period of stay and your My Number card that is still valid. If the person is under the age of 15, the legal representative must also bring the legal representative's identity verification documents and complete the procedure.

Note: After receiving your new residence card, you will need to apply to extend the validity period of your My Number Card.
Note: Re-extension of the special period extension is not permitted.
