About My Number Card (Individual Number Card)

My Number Card is a plastic card with an IC chip that contains your personal number.
It can be used as an identification document.
The design of the card is as follows.

Benefits of My Number Card Obtaining a My Number Card has the following benefits.

  • It can be used as an official ID when verifying your identity.
  • This one card can verify your personal number and identity.
  • You can now apply for various administrative procedures online.
  • You can use private online transactions such as online banking.
  • You can obtain your resident card, seal certificate, etc. at convenience stores (see below for details) .

How to obtain my number card (individual number card)

About electronic certificates that can be installed on My Number Cards

When using convenient services such as convenience store issuance, it is necessary to have an electronic certificate installed on your My Number card.
There are two types of electronic certificates, and you can optionally install one when applying for a My Number Card.
Additionally, even after you have obtained your My Number Card, you can still have it installed by applying at the counter.

  • Digital certificate for signature

Used to create and send electronic documents over the Internet. It is possible to prove that the electronic document is authentic and was created by the user and sent by the user.

  • Electronic certificate for user certification

Used when logging into Internet sites, kiosks at convenience stores, etc. You can prove that the person logging in is the user.

About electronic certificates for My Number Card (Personal Number Card)

About My Number Card PIN

My Number Card has a total of four types of PIN numbers.

Used to prove that the person logging in is the user.
・Obtain a certificate of residence at a convenience store (convenience store issuing service)
・When logging in to Mynaportal, etc.

For basic resident registerRequired

It is used when changing the address or name on your My Number card, or for special moving-in procedures (moving-in procedures using your My Number card), etc.

For assisting in inputting information on the ticket

Used to confirm the name and address recorded on the card, and to use it as text data.


Validity period of my number card

My Number Card has a validity period.
Please note that the two electronic certificates that can be optionally installed on the My Number Card ( electronic certificate for user certification and electronic certificate for signature ) are different from the validity period of the card itself.

Note: The validity period may differ from the above depending on your status of residence.

To Foreign Nationals

Those who will be obtaining a My Number Card in the future (those with a residence status other than permanent resident, highly skilled professional No. 2, or special permanent resident)

  • If you apply just before your period of stay expires, the card will not be issued. You will need to apply again, so be sure to apply after you have renewed your period of stay. New application forms are available at the Citizens Affairs Division, Hirao Branch Office, and Wakabadai Branch Office.

Those who have a My Number Card (those with a residence status other than permanent resident, highly skilled professional No. 2, and special permanent resident)

  • If your period of stay changes due to an extension of your period of stay, etc., you will also need to update the validity period of your My Number Card. Please note that once the validity period has passed, your My Number Card will no longer be usable. Please note that a fee will be charged for reissue.
  • If you have a My Number Card and have completed the procedure for renewing your period of stay within the validity period of your My Number Card, please carry out the procedure by bringing your updated residence card and the My Number Card within the validity period. If the person is under 15 years of age, please have a legal representative come to the office and complete the procedures by bringing the person's residence card, My Number card, and the legal representative's identification documents.
  • If you apply for permission to extend your period of stay before the expiration date and permission is not granted by the expiration date, you can apply for a "special extension" to extend the validity of your My Number card by two months. Please bring your residence card, which states that you are applying for permission to extend your period of stay, and your valid My Number card to complete the procedure. If you are under 15 years old, your legal guardian must also bring their identification document to complete the procedure.

Note: After receiving your new residence card, you will need to apply for an extension of the validity period of your My Number card.
Note: The special extension period cannot be extended again.
