To prevent littering damage caused by animals and others

To prevent littering caused by animals, it is important to take measures and make efforts such as the following.
Let's follow the established rules and manners for garbage disposal, such as putting out the trash by 8 AM.
Crows become more active during their breeding season (generally from late March to early July).

Measures that can be taken at home

Reduce kitchen waste

Let's reduce the food waste that can be used as animal feed.

Food Waste Disposal

  • Be sure to drain the moisture from kitchen waste, and wrap it in at least a minimal amount of flyers or newspaper to keep it out of sight in the garbage bag. Draining the moisture from the waste also contributes to reducing the amount of waste.
  • Place kitchen waste in the center of the garbage bag so that it is not visible from the outside.
  • Let's not dispose of waste with only kitchen scraps.

Tips for Garbage Disposal That Are Less Likely to Be Disturbed by Animals

Use of Bird Netting

Instead of just covering with a net, let's use it to wrap the entire garbage. Please place weights on the edges of the net to ensure there are no gaps.

Bird protection nets are distributed for free by the Living Environment Division, so if you need one, please come to the counter.
This is available for single-family homes only, and it is free of charge for the first time.

  • Note: For the second time and thereafter, you will need to purchase individually.
  • Note: Bird prevention nets are not distributed to residents of apartment buildings, so please check and consult with your property manager regarding bird prevention measures.

Hide kitchen waste

Crows have excellent vision and can recognize reddish colors and wet items as food.
Be sure to drain kitchen waste thoroughly, place it in a small bag, and wrap that small bag in newspaper or similar before placing it in the center of the garbage bag.

Dispose of garbage according to the established rules

If you put out raw garbage the night before or in the evening, it will be left out for a long time, giving crows time to search for food.
As much as possible, please put it out at the collection point on the designated day in the morning, before 8 AM, after it gets light.

Precautions for Installing Bird Nets

Please secure the installed net with weights or similar items to prevent it from being blown away by the wind and to avoid obstructing pedestrian traffic.
We appreciate your cooperation in proper waste disposal and maintaining environmental beautification.
