Housing Security Benefit

The Housing Security Benefit is a system that provides financial assistance to individuals who are economically distressed due to job loss, business closure, or unavoidable leave, and who have lost or are at risk of losing their housing. This benefit is provided to landlords by the city for a period of three months (with an extension system available) under the condition that the recipients engage in activities aimed at finding employment, covering an amount equivalent to rent (with a limit).

• Within two years after leaving a job or closing a business, or due to unavoidable reasons, opportunities to earn income have decreased
• Household income in the application month is below a certain amount (example limits) 137,700 yen for a single-person household, 194,000 yen for a two-person household
• Total amount of savings and cash is below a certain amount (example limit) 504,000 yen for a single-person household, 780,000 yen for a two-person household (changes may occur upon extension)
• Before the above situation occurred, the household was primarily maintained by the household income.
• Examples of rent subsidy limits: 53,700 yen for single-person households, 64,000 yen for two-person households, etc.
• Payment Period: Generally 3 months (Extension system available)
