About My Number Card for Those Moving Abroad

Starting from May 27, 2024, you will be able to continue using your My Number Card even after moving abroad by completing the necessary procedures.
Additionally, those living overseas who do not have a My Number Card can now apply for a new one.
The eligible individuals are as follows.
Note: To continue using your My Number Card that was used domestically after moving abroad, you must complete the procedures for overseas continued use at City Hall or a Branch Office by the day before your planned move date. Procedures cannot be completed after the planned move date.

Eligible Individuals

The following applies to those who meet all criteria.

  • Japanese people
  • Those who have already been assigned a My Number (Those who have registered as residents in Japan after October 5, 2015)

Card Printing

  • The card for those moving abroad will have "Moving Abroad YYYY/MM/DD (Scheduled Move Date)" written in the address field.
  • Cards that were used domestically will have "Overseas Transfer YYYY/MM/DD (Scheduled Transfer Date)" printed in the additional information section after the procedure for continued use abroad.
