System overview

Last updated: July 31, 2011

In April 2008, the medical insurance system for people aged 75 and over, the Medical System for the Elderly (Geriatrics Medical System), began.
This system is for people aged 75 and over and people aged 65 and over who have received disability certification from the regional union.
Those who turn 75 will be automatically enrolled in the Medical Care System for the Advanced Elderly from their current National Health Insurance or Employees' Health Insurance (social insurance) from their birthday.
Along with this, a new insurance card (insurance card) will be mailed to you. When receiving treatment at a medical institution, please present your new insurance card.
This system was established as one of the national medical system reforms to realize a new independent medical system system in view of the super-aging society in view of the increase in medical expenses.
