The meal costs during hospitalization are separate from the medical expenses, and a standard burden amount per meal for dietary therapy is determined.

Standard Copayment for Dietary Therapy During Hospitalization (per meal)
Income Category Standard Burden Amount
(1) General (for those other than (2), (3), and (4)) 490 yen
(2), (3), or (4) do not apply to children with chronic specific diseases or designated intractable diseases, or patients who have been hospitalized in a psychiatric ward for more than one year. 280 yen
Households Exempt from Resident Tax and Low-Income Individuals 2 (2) Hospitalization up to 90 Days 230 yen
Households Exempt from Resident Tax and Low-Income Individuals 2 (3) Hospitalization Exceeding 90 Days (Number of Hospitalization Days in the Past 12 Months) 180 yen (note)
(4) Low-Income Individuals 1 110 yen

Note: Procedures are required. If you are hospitalized for more than 90 days, please bring documents that indicate the number of hospitalization days (such as receipts from medical institutions) and come to the Insurance and Pension Division. The standard burden amount for dietary therapy will be reduced after the application date.

  • For low income levels 1 and 2, please check the "Medical Expenses" burden ratio.
  • (2), (3), and (4) apply to those who need to use the My Number Health Insurance Card or require the 'Certificate of Eligibility for Maximum Limit Application and Reduction of Standard Burden Amount for Dietary Therapy'. If you do not use the My Number Health Insurance Card, you must apply for the 'Certificate of Eligibility for Maximum Limit Application and Reduction of Standard Burden Amount for Dietary Therapy' in advance and receive it.
  • (3) Those who fall under this category need to apply separately.
