Tell the world about Japanese education!
Mr. Matsubara, a teacher at Inagi Daisan Elementary School, was dispatched to Panama in Central America from June 2017 to September 2019 as a member of the Japan International Cooperation Volunteers (JICA). I teach
The level of mathematics in Panama is low, and improving mathematics skills is an important issue for the Ministry of Education of Panama. There are many children who feel that they are not good at mathematics, and it is necessary to provide guidance that draws their interest and curiosity, so Ms. Matsubara is expected to play an active role.
The reason I decided to participate as a volunteer was when I happened to see a leaflet recruiting incumbent teachers. He wanted to broaden his horizons and values, so he decided to take on the challenge. Another reason was that I admired the way seniors with volunteer experience interacted with children.
When I asked Mr. Matsubara about his aspirations, he said, "I want to actively communicate, learn about the good points of Panama, and convey the good points of Japan. I also want to convey the joy of math. Through my volunteer experience, I have grown and will return to Japan." In the future, I want to become a teacher who can empathize with the feelings of the children,” he said powerfully. Panama has a World Heritage Site, and I was really looking forward to it.
Let's support Mr. Matsubara, who is working hard for the development of education in a place far from Japan.
