My Town Inagi 2017 Airi Sekizawa

Updated: December 15, 2017

A martial artist active in the world facing family unity

Airi Sekizawa, a first-year student at Inagi Third Junior High School, participated in the Japan Karate Association 60th National Elementary/Junior High School Karate Tournament (Junior High School 1st Year Women's Kata) and the Japan Karate Association 14th World Boys Karate Championship in August 2017. (13-year-old girl's kata) won the championship.
I have participated in the national competition every year since I was in the third grade of elementary school. It surpassed last year's best 4 and won the first victory.
The world tournament, which I participated in for the first time this time, is a tournament that takes place once every three years and was held in Ireland in Europe, with about 30 countries participating. In the match, facing a powerful opponent in front of him, he seemed to be nervous and white, but he was conscious of his usual practice. What I was especially careful about was to be conscious of the deciding points of the shape (strength, sharpness, speed of stop, etc.).

The reason for the victory was that the whole family worked together to study the game. We watched the video repeatedly and discussed things like strengthening the trunk, keeping the axis straight, and lowering the center of gravity. It seems that the conversation in the family is centered on the story of karate.
Mr. Sekizawa started karate at the age of 5, influenced by his older brother who had already started karate. Now, I am hooked on karate and continue to practice at the dojo six days a week. Regarding the future, he said, "Practice is hard, but it's fun to win games. I want to continue."
Aiming to win the World Championships three years from now, we practice hard every day. Let's support Mr. Sekizawa who is active in the world.
