My Town Inagi 2017 Tomoya Hirakawa
Update date: April 1, 2017
Bringing the joy of science to children in Kenya
Mr. Hirakawa, who lives in Koyodai, has been dispatched to Kenya in East Africa for two years from January 2017 as a Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteer (JICA) to teach science.
I will be dispatched to a public primary school (8 years) in Runyenges, about 2.5 hours drive from Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, where I will teach science to children aged 10 to 14. The schools to which we are assigned have many children from families who are enthusiastic about education, and in the examinations conducted at the time of graduation, the schools have achieved excellent results in the region.
Mr. Hirakawa said strongly, "I want to convey the fun of science to children by using things that are available locally. I would be happy if one of my students became interested in science and won a Nobel Prize." I was. In addition, after returning to Japan, he is looking forward to taking pictures of the local situation and wildlife in order to convey his experiences in Kenya and the wonders of nature to Japanese children.
Let's all support Mr. Hirakawa's efforts for the development of education in Kenya, which is far from Japan.
