Pensioner support benefit system

The pensioner support benefit is paid on top of pensions to support the lives of pensioners whose public pension income or other income amounts are below a certain level. You will need to submit a claim form to receive the benefit. Payment will begin from the month following the month in which you apply.
Target audience
Those who are receiving a basic old-age pension and meet all of the following requirements: (1) They are 65 years of age or older. (2) All members of the applicant's household are exempt from municipal taxes. (3) The total of the previous year's pension income and other income is as follows:
Those born on or after April 2, 1956: Old-age pension recipient support benefit: 789,300 yen or less; Supplementary old-age pension recipient support benefit: over 789,300 yen and up to 889,300 yen
Those born before April 1, 1956: Old-age pension recipient support benefit: 787,700 yen or less Supplementary old-age pension recipient support benefit: over 787,700 yen and up to 887,700 yen
Those receiving a basic disability pension or a basic survivor's pension, whose income for the previous year was less than "4,721,000 yen + number of dependents x 380,000 yen (note)" <br id="3"/>Note: For spouses living in the same household who are 70 years of age or older or elderly dependents, the amount is 480,000 yen, and for specific dependents or dependents aged 16 to 19, the amount is 630,000 yen.
Claim procedure
If you are eligible to receive the pensioner support benefit for the first time, the Japan Pension Service will send you a notice that you can claim. Please fill out the enclosed postcard (pensioner support benefit claim form) and return it. If you are starting to receive a pension, please complete the claim procedure at the same time as you apply for your pension.
Note: If you are already receiving pension recipient support benefits, you do not need to take any further action.
Note: Even if you are no longer eligible due to income or other requirements, if you become eligible due to a change in your household composition or income revision, you can still receive the pension recipient support benefit by submitting a new claim form.
