In response to the spread of home printers, it is said that approximately 200 million "used ink cartridges" are disposed of each year. To recycle these, four printer manufacturers are conducting the "Ink Cartridge Return Project".
The city supports this project and has installed dedicated collection boxes for ink cartridges at 10 public facilities within the city.
To effectively utilize limited resources, please place your used ink cartridges in the collection boxes.

You can bring items directly to the opening hours of the facilities listed below (including holidays).
Please take the ink cartridges out of the box or bag and place them in the collection box.

  • Note: Genuine products from 4 companies (Brother, Canon, Epson, and HP Japan) are subject to collection.
Products from Lexmark have been excluded since April 2016, and products from Dell have been excluded since April 2019, so please be aware.
  • Please do not put anything other than ink cartridges. Toner cartridges are not included.
  • Please take home the boxes or bags that contained the ink cartridges.
  • Items emitted from businesses are not subject to collection.

From collection to recycling

The collection boxes filled with cartridges are sent to the sorting center through the post office. After being sorted one by one by manufacturer at the sorting center, they are reused (reused) and recycled into regenerated cartridges, cartridge parts, and other plastic products by each manufacturer.
In addition, donations are also made to organizations engaged in environmental conservation activities.
