JR Nambu Line continuous grade separation project (project completed)
Updated: March 31, 2016
As part of road development in urban areas, continuous grade crossing projects eliminate many railroad crossings at once by making the railway elevated or underground at intersections between roads and railroads, eliminating congestion and accidents at railroad crossings. This is a project that will facilitate urban transportation through various means, as well as promote the unification of urban areas that have been divided by railways.
Business overview
This project will be carried out by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, in collaboration with Inagi City and JR East, to create a continuous grade-separated intersection between the road and railway for approximately 4.3 kilometers between Inada Tsutsumi Station and Fuchu-honmachi Station, and to construct a viaduct that will be constructed at the same time. A side road will be constructed along the road.
Through this project, 15 railroad crossings were removed, eliminating traffic congestion at railroad crossings and improving the safety of roads and railways. It also helped to unify areas that had been separated by railroads, and to develop towns along the lines. greatly contributes to
Overpass method
There are two types of continuous overpass: elevated and underground.
For the JR Nambu Line, an elevated system was adopted because of the Tamagawa Bridge and the Inagi Ohashi Road being underground.
Why do you make it a grade crossing?
Traffic facilitation can be planned
There will be no railroad crossings, and traffic jams on the Tsurukawa Kaido, Fuchu Kaido, and city roads will disappear.
Improve safety
Accidents at railroad crossings will be eliminated, and people, cars, and trains will be able to cross safely.
The passage of emergency vehicles that protect lives and property is not obstructed.
Contribute to regional development
Urban areas that were previously divided by railways can be integrated.
Inagi City will be able to carry out comprehensive urban development through the land readjustment project around the station in line with this project.
Convenience can be improved
The station is equipped with elevators, escalators, and multifunctional, clean toilets for everyone to use comfortably.
The space under the completed elevated bridge will be utilized effectively, and convenience for the area will be improved, including opening of stores.

Business progress
In October 2005, the first phase of construction (from Kawasaki to the east side of Inagi-Naganuma Station), including Yanoguchi Station, was elevated, and eight railroad crossings were removed or abolished during this period.
In some sections where the elevated railway has been completed (from the west side of Yanoguchi Station to the old Oshidate railroad crossing), a road with a width of 6 to 7.5 meters has been opened along the elevated road.
In addition, around Yanoguchi Station, a bicycle parking lot and a store (i-port Yanoguchi) have opened, making effective use of the space under the elevated tracks.

From March 2006, the construction of the second construction section (from the east side of Inagi Naganuma Station to the west side of Minamitama Station) has started, and in December 2011, the changeover of the viaduct on the outbound line (towards Tachikawa) will be completed. Has completed.
In December 2013, the inbound line (for Kawasaki) was switched to an elevated bridge, completing the elevation of the entire line within the project section. All 15 railroad crossings in the project section have disappeared, including the 8 railroad crossings in the first section.
In addition, in June 2016, the north side road was also opened to traffic.

Underpass utilization plan
In order to effectively and appropriately utilize the space under the elevated tracks in the Inagi City section (Yanoguchi Station to Minamitama Station) of the JR Nambu Line (Inada Tsutsumi Station to Fuchu-honmachi Station) continuous grade separation project, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, JR and Inagi The city has formulated a plan for the use of underpasses, and from now on, the use of underpasses will be planned based on the plan.
