We provide financial assistance for assistive devices and repair of provided assistive devices to improve the convenience of the daily lives and occupations of individuals with physical disabilities.
If you wish to use this service, please be sure to consult with the Disability Welfare Division in advance.
Note: The income limit for financial assistance for assistive devices for children (under 18 years old) was abolished from April 2024.

About the Target Audience

Holders of the Physical Disability Certificate and patients with specified intractable diseases. However, those eligible for Long-Term Care Insurance should use the Long-Term Care Insurance system for items covered by the insurance (such as the provision of wheelchairs).

In addition, for temporary necessary equipment for training, health insurance may take priority, and there may be cases where other systems take precedence.

About Assistive Devices

Benefits are provided for the following items.

Physical Disability Prosthetic arms and legs, orthotics, posture support devices, wheelchairs, electric wheelchairs, walkers, walking aids, communication devices for severely disabled individuals, seating support chairs (for children only), standing support devices (for children only), head support devices (for children only), bowel assistance devices (for children only)

About the Burden Amount

As a general rule, 10% of the standard amount for the assistive devices purchased or repaired (the standard amount varies for each assistive device) will be the user's burden, and there are monthly burden limits based on the household income. Additionally, any amount exceeding the standard amount will be fully borne by the individual.

The households that determine income are as follows.

If there is a person in the household with a Municipal Resident Tax income portion of 460,000 yen or more, they will not be eligible for public funding.
For children (under 18 years old), the income restrictions have been abolished starting from April 2024.

Please note that if you apply after purchase, we will not be able to provide assistance for the cost of the equipment.

In addition, depending on the type of assistive devices, a doctor's Opinion Statement or an assessment at the Tokyo Disability Welfare Center may be required.
