How to self-examine breast cancer
Updated: October 5, 2017
Do a monthly self-examination for breast cancer
Do it 4 to 5 days after your period ends.
After menopause, decide the date once a month. We recommend choosing a date that is easy to remember, such as a birthday or anniversary.
Do you see any dents/bulges, sores/discoloration, or convulsions?
Stand in front of a mirror and fold your hands behind your head to see colors and shapes.
We recommend that you watch it even with your arms down.
Do you have a lump when you touch it?
Check for lumps by stroking lightly with your fingertips as if you were writing the letter "no" with four fingers.
Do you have pinched "bloody discharge"?
Gently pinch the base of the nipple with your fingers and check for discharge.
Do you have a lump when you lie down?
Lie on your back, place a low pillow or folded towel under your back, and feel your breast for lumps.
If you find any abnormalities in your breasts or armpits
Please see a breast (surgery) department immediately.
