My Number Cards for people emigrating overseas

From May 27, 2024, you can continue to use your existing My Number card even after moving overseas by following the required procedures.
In addition, people living overseas who do not have a My Number card can now apply for a new one.
The following people are eligible:
Note: To continue using your My Number card after moving overseas, you will need to apply for continued use overseas at your city hall or branch office by the day before your planned move-out date. You cannot apply after your planned move-out date.
Target audience
This offer is for people who meet all of the following criteria:
- Japanese people
- Those who have already been assigned a My Number (those who have registered as residents in Japan after October 5, 2015)
Card printing
- On cards for people emigrating overseas, the address field will state "Emigrating overseas on XX/XX/XX (planned date of emigration). "
- After you have completed the procedure for continuing to use your card overseas, the words " Moving overseas on XX/XX/XX (planned date of departure)" will be printed in the additional notes section on the card for cards that you have been using in Japan.
