February 2015 Regarding the formulation of “Minamitama Ridge Trunk Line Development Policy”

The Minami-Tama One Trunk Line was established as a city plan in 1964 in line with the development of Tama New Town, and although some sections have been constructed with four lanes, the majority of the line has provisional two lanes. Chronic traffic congestion is occurring, and traffic flows onto community roads, causing deterioration of the roadside environment.
Based on its role as a wide-area arterial road network, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government is proceeding with consideration of the form of construction of provisional two-lane sections, and in February 2015, it has decided to develop a development policy that includes four lanes for the entire line and a planar structure for sections with cut-out structures. It was formulated in February.
Basic concept : The entire line will be 4 lanes in order to alleviate traffic congestion and ensure wide-area trunk road functionality.
・A planar structure will be adopted for reasons such as access to the roadside and integration with town planning.
- Make effective use of the current road land and create a road configuration that is considerate of the roadside environment.
・A tunnel structure will be used near the city limits of Inagi City and Tama City, and a route will be considered that takes into account conservation areas.
(Conservation areas are areas designated based on the Tokyo Nature Protection and Restoration Ordinance)
