To prevent the spread of burn disease (to all producers of pears, apples, etc.)
About Burns
Burn disease is a plant disease caused by bacteria. It widely infects plants in the Rosaceae family, such as pears and apples, causing significant damage.
Since it has not occurred in Japan, we are strictly monitoring and prohibiting the import of host plant branches and fruits from overseas.
There are no effective control methods for burn disease, and if infected, the entire tree may die.
Response to the burn disease that occurred in China
It has been confirmed that burn disease has occurred in China, which was not previously considered an outbreak country. As an emergency measure, the import of pollinating pear pollen (including apple pollen) from China was suspended on August 30, 2023.
There is a risk of spreading the disease if pollination work is done with pollen infected with fire blight. To prevent the invasion and spread of fire blight, which can cause significant damage to agriculture, early detection and early control of this bacterium are important. If you are using pollen from China, please cooperate on the following points.
- If you have pollen from China, please do not use it.
- If you suspect symptoms of burn disease or find agricultural damage that is different from usual, please contact the inquiry below.
- Please consider increasing pollen production through self-collection and other methods for next season's production.
