National Pension Subscribers
National Pension subscribers are divided into the following four categories, and the burden of premiums also varies.
Category 1 Insured Person
Self-employed individuals, students, agricultural, forestry, and fishery workers, and unemployed persons aged 20 to under 60 living in Japan (not classified as Category 2 or Category 3 insured persons). They will pay the insurance premiums themselves.
Category 2 Insured Person
Those who are enrolled in workplace pensions (Employees' Pension) such as company employees and public servants.
Those under 20 years old or over 60 years old will also become Category 2 insured persons of the National Pension if they enroll in the Employees' Pension.
The insurance premiums are shared equally between the business operators and the individual, with the individual's portion deducted from their salary.
Category 3 Insured Person
Spouses who are supported by a Category 2 insured person and are between 20 and 60 years old.
Since the insurance premium is covered by the necessary costs of the Employee Pension to which the spouse is enrolled, the individual does not need to pay the insurance premium.
Additionally, the spouse's insurance premium will not increase as a result of the insurance premium for the Category 3 insured person.
Voluntary Members from Age 60
If you are not eligible for benefits for 10 years even after turning 60, or if you want to increase your pension amount, you can voluntarily join the National Pension until you turn 65.
Additionally, those born before April 1, 1965, who do not meet the pension eligibility period even after turning 65, can exceptionally join voluntarily until they meet the eligibility period by the age of 70.
