In Inagi City, due to the fire prevention ordinance, the installation of residential fire alarms has been mandatory for all homes since April 1, 2010.
As of the fiscal year 2023, the installation rate of residential fire alarms in Inagi City is approximately 95%, but there are still homes that have not installed them.
By installing residential fire alarms, early notification of fire occurrences can be achieved, and various successful cases have been reported through effective evacuation and initial firefighting measures.
To protect precious lives and property from residential fires, if you have not yet installed one, please do so immediately.

Please ensure the proper maintenance and management of the installed residential fire alarms!

Let's take care of it regularly

If dust or cobwebs accumulate on residential fire alarms, it becomes difficult to detect fires. If dirt is noticeable, please wipe it off with a dry cloth or a cloth sufficiently wrung out after being soaked in water.

Let's take a test

Please conduct a test approximately once a month to confirm operation.
You can check whether the alarm sound works by pressing the "button" or pulling the "string" of the residential fire alarm.

Alarm sound does not ring

Let's confirm the following.

  • Is the battery properly set?
  • Is the battery dead?
  • If it still does not sound, a malfunction may be suspected. Please check the instruction manual.

What to do when the alarm sounds?

In case of fire

  • Alert those around you about the fire loudly and call 119.
  • If possible, please extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher or similar.
  • If it is difficult to extinguish the fire, please evacuate immediately.

Let's replace it after 10 years

  • Residential fire alarms that have been installed for 10 years are more likely to deteriorate and fail. Even if they are functioning normally now, please replace them as soon as possible.
  • Even if you replace the battery, the device itself may deteriorate and fail. Please replace the main unit of the device even if it is battery-operated.

Case where a residential fire alarm was installed, preventing a fire

Case 1

Because I went out without confirming that the cigarette butts had been disposed of, a large amount of butts accumulated in the ashtray began to smolder, and the smoke triggered the residential fire alarm. Upon noticing the alarm sound, a neighbor called 119, and when the fire department arrived, it was just moments away from becoming a fire.

Case 2

A fire did not occur because the fire department entered after a neighbor noticed the alarm sound and called 119, as the stove was left on while someone fell asleep in another room.

Case 3

While sleeping with the electric heater on, the blanket came into contact with the heater, causing smoke to fill the room. I woke up to the alarm sound from the detector installed in the kitchen, and I poured water from the kettle onto it, just before it turned into a fire.
