The provision of the 'Automatic Call Recording Device' will be discontinued.
The city has been implementing a grant program for automatic call recording devices, primarily targeting citizens aged 65 and older, as a measure against special fraud.
This recording device is designed to play a warning message to the caller (the perpetrator) before the phone rings, which is expected to deter the caller (the perpetrator) from continuing the call and prevent potential damage. Therefore, we have been recommending its installation.
However, there have been reports of cases where fraud calls continue despite the recording device functioning properly and the warning message indicating that the conversation will be recorded. As a result, we have decided to discontinue the grant of automatic call recording devices due to the challenges associated with their continued use.
The city will continue to advance measures against special fraud through various methods in the future.
For those currently receiving automatic call recording devices, you may continue to use them, but please do not rely solely on the recording device. We recommend using other measures such as caller ID and number request, and be mindful of the precautions listed below. If you receive a suspicious call, please report it immediately by dialing 110.
To Avoid Falling Victim to Fraud
The damage from 'Ore Ore' scams is increasing!
Among the 9 reported cases of damage from January to September of Reiwa 6, 5 cases are "Ore Ore Scams." "Ore Ore Scams" are frauds where the caller pretends to be a family member, exploiting the worried feelings of parents to trick them into handing over cash.
Be cautious of calls claiming to be from children or grandchildren saying, "I urgently need money due to a work-related problem."
If money is mentioned over the phone, promise to hang up and consult with your family immediately.
To block phone calls from the Ore Ore scam
- Always set to voicemail
- Decide on a family password in advance
- Do not disclose personal information or PINs
- Call back the original number of the family member who called you to confirm.
Actively utilize "Number Display" and "Number Request"!
NTT East Japan is implementing a program to prevent special fraud damage, targeting contract holders aged 70 and over (themselves) or their cohabiting contract holders (family), where the monthly usage fee and initial construction cost for "Number Display" and "Number Request" will be free.
