There have been a series of news reports about explosion accidents caused by striking a large number of spray cans indoors with a pointed hammer or similar object to puncture them and release gas.
Since spray cans contain flammable gas, puncturing them or disposing of them incorrectly can lead to accidents such as residential and vehicle fires or damage to machinery, and there is a risk of processing facilities being halted.
To prevent fires and ensure the safety of collection workers, please double-check the waste and recycling calendar before disposing of your waste to confirm that you are sorting it correctly. For items such as "spray cans," "gas canisters," and "lighters," please either use them completely before disposal or, if you cannot use them completely, dispose of them as they are without puncturing them on the designated "hazardous waste" day once a month.
If you have any questions about sorting, please contact the Living Environment Division.
