In Inagi City, starting from the fiscal year 2023, we plan to begin the separate collection of plastic waste and further promote waste reduction and recycling.
Currently, plastic waste generated from general households is sorted into "burnable waste" for soft plastics and "non-burnable waste" for hard plastics, which are then collected and transported using designated paid collection bags. After that, the waste is incinerated at the Tamagawa Sanitation Association, and thermal recovery is conducted to generate electricity and recover heat from the heat produced during incineration.
In the future, to promote resource circulation related to plastics, we ask for the understanding and cooperation of citizens to sort recyclable plastic waste from "burnable waste" and "non-burnable waste" into newly created designated paid collection bags for plastic waste, which will be collected and sorted for recycling.

Purpose and Effects of the Project

Purpose

In order to address the global environmental issues we face, protect limited resources, reduce the burden on future generations, and promote the formation of a sustainable society, we are currently working on separating and collecting plastic waste that is being incinerated for recycling.

Effect

By separating and collecting "clean, plastic materials only" from combustible and non-combustible waste, recycling becomes possible, which helps reduce the environmental burden on the Earth, decrease waste, and lower CO2 emissions generated from the incineration of plastic waste.
Additionally, as a measure against the marine plastic waste problem shown in the photos and illustrations below, developing a habit of treating plastic as a resource in daily life can lead to environmentally conscious behaviors, such as not littering.

Report from the Inagi City Waste Reduction Promotion Council

On July 12, 2022, the Inagi City Waste Reduction Promotion Council submitted a report to the Mayor of Inagi City regarding "Further Promotion of Waste Reduction and Resource Recycling."
The city will utilize this report to implement the separate collection and recycling of plastic waste.

Law Concerning the Promotion of Resource Circulation Related to Plastics

In response to issues such as marine plastic waste, climate change, and the strengthening of waste import regulations in various countries, the importance of further promoting the resource circulation of plastics in Japan has increased. Therefore, the "Law for the Promotion of Resource Circulation Related to Plastics" was enacted in June 2021 and came into effect on April 1, 2022.

Collected Plastic Waste

Among plastic bags, containers, packaging, and products

  1. Unsoiled Items
  2. Made only of plastic materials

We will collect plastic waste suitable for recycling, such as the above.
Additionally, "container and packaging plastics" and "product plastics" are scheduled to be collected together without separation.
