Starting from April 1, 2022! New law regarding "plastic"
About the Recycling of Plastic Waste
To promote initiatives related to the circulation of plastic resources among citizens, administration, and business operators involved in product design and plastic waste management (3R + Renewable), the "Law for the Promotion of Resource Circulation Related to Plastics" came into effect on April 1, 2022, making it a duty for municipalities to collect plastics separately.
Currently, plastic waste generated from general households in Inagi City is collected as combustible or non-combustible waste, incinerated at the Tama River Clean Center, and heat recovery is performed to generate electricity using the heat produced. In the future, preparations are being made to separate plastics suitable for resource recycling from combustible and non-combustible waste and to promote resource recycling.
Law Concerning the Promotion of Resource Circulation Related to Plastics
Regarding plastic waste, the importance of further promoting the resource circulation of plastics in Japan is increasing, triggered by issues such as marine plastic waste, climate change, and the strengthening of waste import regulations in various countries. It is necessary to comprehensively strengthen the resource circulation system for plastics used in various products. Therefore, the "Law on the Promotion of Resource Circulation Related to Plastics" has been enacted and will be enforced from April 1, 2022.
