Asbestos is a natural mineral fiber also known as chrysotile. It is primarily used as a construction material, with forms including sprayed asbestos and asbestos molded boards.
What you need to be cautious about indoors is the sprayed asbestos on walls and ceilings. Sprayed asbestos can easily become airborne during demolition or as it deteriorates over time.
Asbestos molded boards are fixed with materials like cement, so unless they are cut or disturbed, the likelihood of fibers becoming airborne is low, and there is no concern for health hazards.
Asbestos materials themselves are not toxic, but inhaling asbestos fibers that become airborne during building demolition or renovation is considered a health risk.
The consultation desk for asbestos-related inquiries is as follows.
