Inagi City Carbon Neutral Declaration
In recent years, abnormal weather events believed to be caused by climate change have occurred around the world, and in our country, heavy rains and large typhoons have led to flooding damage, as well as frequent heatwaves and cold waves, significantly impacting daily life.
These climate changes are considered to be partly caused by global warming due to the increase in greenhouse gas emissions, leading to a global spread of actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
In response to this global situation, on February 27, 2023, the Mayor of Inagi City declared in the policy statement at the 1st Regular Session of the Inagi City Council in 2023 that the city aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, known as carbon neutrality.
Until now, the city has been promoting various initiatives to prevent global warming, but as a Zero Carbon City that has made a carbon neutral declaration, we will further strengthen these initiatives and work together with citizens and local business operators towards the realization of a decarbonized society.
Contents of the Declaration (Excerpt from the Fiscal Year 2023 Policy Statement)
In recent years, abnormal weather events believed to be caused by climate change have occurred around the world, and global warming due to the increase in greenhouse gas emissions is considered one of the causes. As a result, actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are spreading globally. In our country, we have declared our aim for carbon neutrality by 2050, and we are also aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 46 percent from 2013 levels by the fiscal year 2030, while continuing to challenge ourselves towards a 50 percent reduction.
To achieve these goals, active efforts from local governments are expected. Inagi City hereby declares that we will actively promote decarbonization measures in collaboration with both the public and private sectors to aim for carbon neutrality by 2050.
Main projects to be undertaken based on the Carbon Neutral Declaration
- Promotion of Solar Power Generation Equipment Installation in Public Facilities
- Promotion of LED Lighting in Public Facilities
- Promotion of carbon neutrality at the citizen level through the expansion of subsidies for the introduction of carbon-neutral housing equipment and other measures.
- Providing environmental education opportunities for the children who will lead the next generation
