Updated: January 20, 2023

34th National Health and Welfare Festival Kanagawa/Yokohama/Kawasaki/Sagamihara Competition Sports Wellness Fukiya Men's Division 4th place!

Toshihiko Soeno (70 years old), a resident of Daimaru, attended the 34th National Health and Welfare Festival Kanagawa-Yokohama-Kawasaki-Sagamihara Tournament (nickname: Nenrin) held in Kanagawa Prefecture from November 12th to 15th, 2020. Pick Kanagawa 2022) and placed 4th place in the individual men's event in the "Sports Wellness Blowgun" event.

The National Health and Welfare Festival (hereinafter referred to as "Nenlympics") aims to improve the health and social participation of seniors aged 60 and over through exchange tournaments in sports and cultural events (Go, Shogi, etc.), welfare events, etc. It is being held. The tournament, which was held for the first time in three years due to the effects of the new coronavirus, featured a record 32 sports and cultural events, with approximately 610,000 participants.

First participation in the long-awaited Nenrin Pick!

Four years ago, Mr. Soeno won the Tokyo tournament in Sports Wellness Fukiya and decided to participate in the Nenlympics for the first time as a representative of Tokyo. Mr. Soeno was very happy when he was selected to participate in the Nenrinpic. However, due to the influence of the new corona, the Nenrin Pick, which was scheduled to be played, was postponed or canceled, and this year, the first appearance after three years has finally come true. Regarding the result of the match, he said, "Actually, I wanted to get a better score. I was overwhelmed by the atmosphere of the venue, I felt the pressure, and I fell one step behind emotionally."

Sports Wellness Fukiya is a sport that everyone can enjoy

Sports Wellness Blowgun is a competition in which participants use their breath to shoot arrows at a circular target 6 to 10 meters away (8 meters for Nenrin Pick) and compete for points. It is a lifelong sport that can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of age or gender, as it does not require high athletic ability or strength. On the other hand, if your mood is not stable, there will be subtle differences in the way you blow, so it is a very delicate sport that requires mental strength and concentration.

Soeno first encountered the Sports Wellness Blowgun about 10 years ago. He became interested in it because it was a little-known sport, and when he tried it, he was hooked by how much fun it was. ``The exhilarating feeling of hitting the target with an arrow is irresistible,'' he said, his eyes sparkling, as he talked about the appeal of the Sports Wellness Blowgun.

Currently, Ms. Soeno is a member of the Japan Sports Wellness Blowgun Association, a general incorporated association, and is also active in promoting the sport as a certified instructor.

Finally, when I asked Mr. Soeno about his future goals, he said with a smile, ``I want to do my best to participate in the Nenrin Picks again.'' Mr. Soeno's further challenges continue.
