Our Town Inagi 2019: Inagi Dai 6 Junior High School Girls Relay Team
To the National Tournament with Team Strength
Riko Yamako, a third-year student at Inagi Dai 6 Junior High School, participated in the women's 100 meters and 200 meters at the "45th All Japan Junior High School Athletics Championships" held last August.
There are various events in athletics, but at Inagi Dai 6 Junior High School, they focus on relay events and have been practicing diligently. In August 2017, the girls' relay team had the achievement of participating in the "44th All Japan Junior High School Athletics Championships."
When I asked Mr. Takano, the advisor of the athletics club, about their practice, he said, "They have been working hard every day. They have overcome the tough training before the competition and have grown significantly both individually and as a team."
Before competitions where they participate as a team, they encourage each other. They write messages on the knees of the participating athletes, uniting everyone's thoughts as they start the race.
When Yamako participated in the national competition individually, all her teammates sent messages and supported her as one.
The third-year students, who retired in the summer in preparation for high school entrance exams, still hold onto their passion for athletics and their friends.
From their serious expressions during the race and their bright, smiling faces during the interview, it was evident that their junior high school life is very fulfilling.
Finally, when I asked about the charm of athletics, they all replied in unison, "A sense of achievement!"
