What is an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)?

What is an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)

It is said that approximately 30,000 people die each year in Japan due to sudden cardiac death, and one of the main direct causes of sudden cardiac death is ventricular fibrillation.
The heart acts as a pump that sends blood throughout the body, delivering blood in a steady rhythm. Ventricular fibrillation is a condition where the heart's ventricles tremble rapidly, preventing blood from being pumped out.
Ventricular fibrillation can only be defibrillated by delivering an electric shock, which may restore normal function. Therefore, how quickly defibrillation is performed is crucial, and the device that determines whether defibrillation is necessary and provides electric shocks as needed is called an AED.
The AEDs installed in public facilities within the city display usage instructions in both audio guidance and on the main display with pictures and text, making them easier to use.

There are signs called AED marks at the locations where AEDs are installed, indicating that they are available.

AED Installation Locations in Inagi City

The AEDs listed on this map include those installed in public institutions as well as those installed in private businesses, with the cooperation of each business.
They can be used by local citizens in case of emergencies, but only during the operating hours of each business and when the AED is not in use within the business.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the private businesses and request that they be used appropriately.

The website of the Japan Emergency Foundation also publishes a nationwide AED map based on the information registered by AED installers.
Note: This is a different AED map from the Inagi Map.
