Measures Against Mosquito-Borne Diseases Such as Dengue Fever

To prevent the occurrence of mosquito-borne infectious diseases such as dengue fever, it is necessary for citizens and facility managers to suppress mosquito breeding and take measures to avoid mosquito bites on a regular basis.

To reduce mosquitoes

To reduce mosquitoes, the most effective method is to eliminate the larvae that live in water (larval control).
The Aedes albopictus has a limited activity range, so places where people are often bitten usually have nearby sources of standing water or thickets that can breed mosquitoes. Taking appropriate measures according to the location of these breeding sources will help prevent mosquito outbreaks.

Larvae Control

Empty cans, PET bottles, empty bottles, abandoned lunch containers, water accumulated in old tires

  • Let's remove unnecessary items and waste.
  • If you do not remove it, please lay it down in a place that is not exposed to rain.

Stored water for watering, puddles in plant pot saucers

  • Let's place it upside down so that water does not accumulate. If it is no longer needed, let's remove it.
  • If you are storing water, be sure to change it regularly (at least once a week).
  • Let's cover it with a fine mesh net.

Water accumulated in clogged gutters and clogged ditches on private property

  • Regularly inspect and clean to prevent water from accumulating by removing blockages.

Water accumulated in the depression of the rain cover sheet

  • Let's cover it with a rain shield to eliminate sagging and prevent depressions.

Hollow of Wood and Stone

  • Let's fill the depressions with fillers such as putty to prevent water from accumulating.

Private Land Rainwater and Drainage Basins

  • Let's clean regularly.

To avoid mosquito bites

Aedes albopictus tends to rest in bushes and shaded areas, and is more likely to bite during the day. Therefore, measures to prevent mosquito bites (adult mosquito control) are effective when engaging in outdoor activities during the day.

Adult Insect Control

Let's prevent the invasion of mosquitoes.

  • Let's install a screen door on the window.
  • Open and close the entrance door and windows quickly.
  • Let's install insect screens on the ventilation pipes of septic tanks and drainage tanks that serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

Let's eliminate mosquito hiding places.

  • Thickets and overgrown areas can become breeding grounds for mosquitoes, so regularly cut back weeds and properly prune trees to ensure good air circulation.

Prevention of Bloodsucking

  • When going to places with many mosquitoes, wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants to avoid being bitten, and try to minimize skin exposure.
  • Avoid wearing sandals without socks.
  • Use repellents or mosquito coils as needed. If using household insecticides or other chemicals, please read the instructions carefully before use.
