Preventing children from falling from balconies, etc. (Caution)

Update date: December 15, 2023

There have been accidents involving children falling from balconies, etc.

Recently, there have been many accidents in Tokyo and across the country where children die from falling from balconies or windows.
The national government and the Tokyo metropolitan government have created pamphlets and videos calling for caution to prevent accidents.
Using these as a reference, please reconfirm whether there are any chairs or shelves on the balcony that children can climb on.

Please refer to the following information to prevent children from falling from windows or balconies.

Childcare support type apartment housing promotion project (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism)

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is targeting apartment complexes (rental housing and condominiums) and is implementing new construction and renovation initiatives that contribute to the safety and security of children, such as accident prevention and crime prevention measures, as well as efforts to create opportunities for parents to interact with each other while raising children. We are implementing the ``Childcare Support Type Apartment Housing Promotion Project,'' which is a support project for initiatives that create connections and interactions between residents that contribute to the creation of social housing.
For details, please see the flyer below and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism website.

“Protect children” housing promotion project (Tokyo)

In Tokyo, in order to improve the safety of living for child-rearing households and create an environment suitable for raising children, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has implemented measures to improve the safety of residential units of child-rearing households living in apartment complexes. We are implementing a project to subsidize some costs.
Subsidy is also available for safety measures such as balconies and windows.
For details, please see the Tokyo Metropolitan Government homepage below.
