To prevent the spread of fire blight (for producers of pears, apples, etc.)

Update date: November 17, 2023

About fire blight

Fire blight is a bacterial plant disease. It widely infects plants in the Rosaceae family, Pear subfamily, such as pears and apples, causing great damage.

Since this disease does not occur in Japan, imports of host plant branches and fruits from overseas are prohibited to prevent the spread of the disease.

There is no effective control method for fire blight, and if infected, the entire tree may die.

Regarding the response to the fire blight outbreak in China

It was confirmed that fire blight was occurring in China, which had not been considered an endemic country, and as an emergency measure, pear pollen (including apple pollen) for pollination was imported from China on August 30, 2020. It has been suspended.

Pollinating with pollen infected with fire blight can spread the disease. In order to prevent fire blight from entering and spreading and causing serious damage to agriculture, early detection and early control of this bacterium is important. If you are using Chinese pollen, please help us with the following points:

  1. If you have Chinese pollen, please do not use it.
  2. If you suspect symptoms of fire blight or find unusual damage to your crops, please contact us at the contact information below.
  3. Please consider increasing pollen production by self-collecting for next season's production.
