Let's install an earthquake breaker!
1. Electrical Fires During Major Earthquakes
Many of the causes of fires that occur after a major earthquake are related to electricity.
- Fire due to wiring damage
- Fire due to code interruption, etc.
- Incandescent lamp tipped over and fell, igniting combustible materials
- Flammable materials that fell or were dropped came into contact with the heater and ignited.
- The aquarium toppled over, igniting the heater and combustible materials.
- Aquarium overturned, water splashed on the outlet causing a fire
- Heating and fire due to overload
Installing an earthquake breaker is effective in preventing electrical fires.
2. What is an earthquake breaker?
This automatically cuts off power when a certain level of shaking is detected during an earthquake, and by installing it in each household, it can prevent fires and the spread of flames to other homes, thereby reducing damage caused by fires.
To prevent electrical fires caused by earthquakes, it is effective to turn off the breaker during evacuation. Since there may be times when you cannot turn off the breaker during emergencies immediately after an earthquake or when you are away, it is reassuring to install an earthquake-sensitive breaker.
3. Types of Earthquake Breakers
Seismic breakers mainly come in the following types.
- Distribution Board Type (Built-in)
The sensor built into the distribution board detects shaking and cuts off the breaker to stop the electricity. - Subpanel Type (Retrofit)
This type adds an earthquake detection function to the subpanel, where a sensor detects shaking and cuts off the electricity by tripping the breaker. - Outlet Type
The sensor built into the outlet detects shaking and cuts off the electricity from the outlet. - Simple Type
Cuts off the breaker and interrupts the electricity due to the operation of the spring or the drop of the weight.
Note: For items such as distribution board types that cut off all electricity in the home during an earthquake, caution is necessary during installation as there may be an impact on medical devices. Additionally, if an earthquake occurs at night and the lights go out, it may hinder a quick and safe evacuation outdoors, so let's prepare emergency lights.
